American Silver Eagle coins feature the historic design of Walking Liberty. Originally created by Adolph A. Weinman in 1916 for the US half dollar, the image depicts Liberty walking toward the sun on the horizon as a symbol of the nations constant pursuit of a brighter future. It was found on the US half dollar from 1916 to 1947.

On the obverse is that design of Walking Liberty. In left-profile relief, Liberty walks toward the sun on the horizon with her right army outstretched and the American flag draped over her shoulders. In her left hand, she holds branches of laurel and oak to signify Americas civil and military glory.

The reverse of the American Silver Eagle Coins includes the image of the heraldic eagle of the United States. Originally created in 1794 for the first-ever US coins struck by the original Philadelphia Mint, the heraldic eagle initially featured a small, fragile-looking eagle. Americas Founding Fathers pushed for a more powerful bird to symbolize the spirit and resilience of American people. This design was created in 1986 for the American Silver Eagle by John Mercanti. At the time, Mercanti was an artist-engraver at the Philadelphia Mint and would later go on to serve as the 12th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint (2006-2010).
